Submission Guidelines
Susquehanna Life, Central Pennsylvania’s Lifestyle Magazine, is a quarterly, feature-oriented publication with an upscale audience evenly divided between males and females ages 40+. A large percentage of our subscribers are Pennsylvania residents, but we are also read by visitors to the region, people thinking of relocating or retiring here, and former residents.
Editorial Focus: Articles in the magazine are relatively short, and do not exceed 1000 words. Generally, topics take a positive look at a variety of aspects of life in Central Pennsylvania.
Columns and Departments:
Dining Out (restaurant profile); Profile (of a person, place or thing); Adventures in Sports; Back to Nature; Planning for the Future; Community Focus; Just for Fun; Downtowns; History; HomeStyles; Historic Preservation; The Environment; and more.
Familiarity with the magazine is a must. Don’t query on on topics we’ve already covered! No topic is off limits, as long as it is interesting, positive and centers in or around our circulation area.
Circulation Area: Centre, Clinton, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, Lycoming, Huntingdon, Sullivan, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Union, Snyder, Northumberland, Carbon, Schuykill, Dauphin, Lebanon, Lancaster, Cumberland, Adams, York counties.
Publication Dates: First week of March (spring); First week of June (summer); First week of September (fall); Second week of November (winter). Query or submit articles four-six months in advance of publication date.
Article guidelines: Queries or full-length manuscripts accepted via mail or email. No telephone queries. Enclose a SASE.
Final submissions: via email or on disc (in Word format, in Times Roman 12 point type, with no formatting codes) plus a hard copy via U.S. mail.
Payment: On publication: full-length articles: $75-$150
Photography guidelines: High-quality existing original photography: $20 each; On assignment - $40/hour with maximum of 2 ½ hours per shoot; existing photos used for cover $100-$150. Sample Copy: $4.95 + $2.25 postage.
Copyrights: Susquehanna Life magazine buys all Pennsylvania publication rights for a period of one year and the right to use articles and photographs on our Website and in any retrospective publications we may publish in the future.
